Computers in Homes News Archive - 2006:

  • November 2006 - 2020 Communications Trust Celebrates 10 Years of Community ICT Development

Computers In Homes featured strongly at the 2020 10th Anniversary event at Parliament in November.

By far the most response we received afterwards was in praise of Toni Kahu and her speech about her journey from an inaugural CIH parent at Cannons Creek School in 2000, through her graduation as a teacher and to now as an advocate for CIH in her present position as lead ICT teacher at Brandon Intermediate.

Toni is a great ambassador for CIH and we are grateful for her attendance at the event. Porirua's e-Learning Trust has applied to CPF to extend CIH in the city, planning to encompass Brandon 's needs.

  • November 2006 - Huntly Kids get Computers thanks to $25,000 donation from CA

Next year, children from about 18 Huntly families will have something many other kids take for granted - a home PC - thanks to a $25,000 donation from CA, one of the world's largest management software companies.

The announcement was made as the 2020 Communications Trust Celebrated 10 years of Community ICT development at a reception at Parliament's Grand Hall on the 20th of November.

CA's donation will be used to provide recycled computers, training and support to the families of children at Huntly Primary School , a decile one school in the Waikato town. CA will provide a 12-month licence of its Internet Security Suite so each PC is protected against computer viruses and spyware. Families also receive six months' free Internet access... • New projects for 2006-07: Auckland Cluster - Congratulations!

Graduations have been held for Jean Batten School in Mangere and Te Kura Kaupapa Maori O Puau Te Moana-Nui-A-Kiwa in Glenn Innes. Both ceremonies were wonderful, with a huge turnout of families, whanau and aiga; good food, much laughter and entertainment. Our thanks to all involved.

The schools shared 30 families overall, but with JBS having a waiting list of 35 eligible families, CIH has managed to redistribute funds from 2 other projects which did not fill their quota. A second intake of 15 families will begin training in Term 1 2007 at Jean Batten School.

  • Govt's Digital Strategy Community Partnership Fund CIH

In 4 regions where CIH had run 1 pilot project, then extended to include 3 more the following year, there are exciting new developments for Computers In Homes.

Gisborne City , Wanganui City , WestREAP and Eltham School Community were all successful in their bids to the CPF to run their own expansions to CIH.
