CIH Projects for Refugee Children and their Families
Christchurch Project (current):
October 2007:
Following an Adult Literacy conference in Chch, aimed at Pasifika families, at which Cannons Creek parents and children spoke about CIH, the MoE Pacific Education Coordinator approached CIH for projects in Chch. We began with 20 families at Rowley Avenue School, building on the training already accomplished by the Pasifika family Literacy Programme at Hillmorton High School. Our partners in this were PEETO, the Pacific Education Employment Training organisation, who provided the teaching and technical support.
The following year CIH extended to Linwood North, Aranui, Bromley and St James Schools, connecting 60 new families to the online world. In the meantime PEETO also began as the local provider for Refugee CIH in the city, and have since supported around 70 refugee families.
In 2007 we are delighted to be working with Shirley Intermediate and Hammersley Park Schools, with funding for 30 more families.
September 2007:
Te Kete Atawhai ICT Cluster schools Shirley Intermediate and Hammersley Park School in Christchurch are ready to recruit 30 families. Finding a good tutor is a crucial part of CIH, and we are fortunate that Shirley’s Technology teacher will take on all 30 parent learners.
