Patea / Hawera CIH Project

Patea / Hawera Project:

3 Schools formed the Patea/Hawera Cluster and graduated 25 families between October and December 2007:

  • Patea Area School serves the wider part of the Patea District, with children from Years 1-13
  • Ramanui School is in Hawera township
  • Ngamatapouri School is 50km up the Waitotara River Valley from the main highway. The community was severely flooded and cut off by road collapses during the floods of recent years

October 2007:
Patea Area School and Ramanui School in Hawera became involved through South Taranaki Community Development officer Jackie Broughton, who has been a strong champion of CIH since the earliest Eltham project.
Their CIH parents from 25 families will graduate in November.
We plan to also add 5 families from Ngamatapouri School up the Waitotara River Valley as part of this cluster.

September 2007:
Patea / Hawera project involves Ramanui and Patea Area schools and 25 families. They are in between two existing CIH regions (Wanganui & Eltham) so we are always keen to provide an option for isolated communities. An essential part of a successful CIH project is commitment by school staff to manage the procedure locally.
