Tuhoe Project
Tuhoe Schools, Bay of Plenty - April 2001 to April 2003:
New Zealand's first rurally based Computers in Homes pilot was launched on 27 April 2001 at the Kutarere Marae. It is a joint project of the Tuhoe Education Authority, Ministry of Education and the 2020 Communications Trust. The project received major support from Renaissance Education solutions and Hewlett Packard. Both companies provided hardware for the project. Assistance is also being given by Victoria University, the Ark Recyclers and Actrix Networks.
Cluster One famililes from Kutarere, Waimana and Matahi were amongst the first to receive their computers, and attended training at their local schools. In 2002 and 2003, the Computers in Homes project expanded to Clusters 2 & 3, intending to reach 125 families. The Tuhoe Education Authority comprises the following schools:
Galatea Primary, Taneatua, Tawera Bi-lingual, Te Mahoe, Waimana, Waiotahe, Kokako, Kutarere Primary and Te Whaiti schools.
Their Kura Kaupapa Maori are Te Kura Ngahere Reo Rua o Minginui, Te Wharekura o Huiarau, Te Wharekura a Rohe o Ruatoki, and Te Kura Maori a Rohe o Waiohau.
